🌎 How to Get to Drake Bay

Simple steps to reach our village — by bus, boat, or plane.

Getting to Drake Bay isn’t difficult — but it is a little different. That’s part of the charm.

Whether you come by boat, plane, or a mix of both, the road here slows you down — and begins to shift your pace even before you arrive. Don’t worry: we’ll guide you through every step.

🚌 Option 1: Bus + Boat (the most popular)

The scenic and affordable route.
Ideal if you’re traveling with time and want to soak in the journey.

 
  • 1. Bus from San José to Sierpe

→ Take the Tracopa bus at 8:30 a.m. from the main terminal in San José.
→ Book in advance via the Passer app (iOS/Android).
→ Duration: ~6.5 hours.

  • 2. Boat from Sierpe To Drake Bay

→ Take the public boat (“colectivo”) at 4:00 p.m. from Don Jorge’s dock.
→ Boat ride lasts 1 hour through scenic mangroves.
→ Cost: ~$20 (pay on site).

 
  • We’ll meet you at the beach when you arrive.
  • Important: Arrive in Sierpe by 3:30 p.m. latest. There’s no boat after 4:00 p.m.

✈️ Option 2: Domestic Flight (fastest)

If you’re short on time or just love the skies.

 
  • Book with Sansa Airlines (www.flysansa.com)
  • Route: San José → Drake Bay
  • Flight time: ~50 minutes
  • Multiple departures per day
  • We’ll pick you up at the small jungle airport.
  • 1. Bus from San José to Sierpe
  • Let us know your flight details — we’ll arrange everything else.

🚗 Option 3: Drive + Boat

For road trippers and rental car travelers.

 
  • Drive to Sierpe via the Costanera highway.
  • Park at Don Jorge’s secure parking near the dock (~$6/day).
  • Take the 11:30 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. boat to Drake Bay.
  • We recommend the earlier boat if you’re coming from far.

🚙 Option 4: 4×4 Drive to Drake Bay

Route:

Palmar Norte → Chacarita → Rincón de Osa → Drake Bay

  • Gravel and muddy sections
  • No cell signal in some parts of the way
  • It is must be done a with 4x4

🧳 Before You Arrive

  • Pack light:
  • Boats land directly on the beach (your feet may get wet)
  • Bring some cash:
  •  For boat fare or snacks — there are no ATMs in Drake Bay
